Field Hockey Sets 2017 Schedule

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Sewanee field hockey gears up for their 2017 schedule, announced by Head Coach Laura "Mac" McIntyre. 

The Tigers open the 2017 season with their first four matches on the road. On opening weekend, Sewanee will travel to Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday, Sept. 2 before ending the weekend at Roanoke College the following day. 

The next weekend, they will travel to Richmond, Ind. to play Earlham College on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The following day, Sewanee and Oberlin will play a neutral-site match at Earlham. 

Following a bye weekend, the Tigers will open their home schedule with Lindenwood University-Belleville and Converse College. The showdown with the Lynx will take place on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. The weekend homestand will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 24 with a noon start against the Valkyries. 

As the calendar turns to October, the Tigers will return to the road with matchups against Ohio Wesleyan on Sept. 30 and Wittenberg on Oct. 1. 

Sewanee, after six of their first eight matchups away from the mountain, will play its next five games at home. The first contest will take place during Family Weekend, playing Ferrum to open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 12 p.m.

Newcomer to the SAA Concordia Wisconsin will next take on the Tigers at home the following Saturday, Oct. 14, for a noon start. Following that matchup, the Purple and Gold will take on Transylvania in a non-conference contest at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16. 

The homestand and home schedule concludes on the weekend of Oct. 21. The Tigers will face Hendrix on Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. before hosting defending SAA Tournament champion Rhodes the following day at noon. 

The regular season concludes on the weekend of Oct. 28 and 29, with SAA contests at Centre and Transylvania, respectively. 

The 2017 SAA Conference Tournament will take place on Nov. 3-5 at the site of the No. 1 seed. 

Head Coach McIntyre enters her second season at the helm of the field hockey program, posting a 6-9 record in 2016 with the Purple and Gold.
