ATLANTA - Announced by the Southern Athletic Association Monday, junior wide receiver Micah Maes has been selected as the SAA Football Offensive Player of the Week after his career performance against Hendrix.
Maes earned the first 100-yard receiving game of his career with a 175-yard performance on 11 catches and two touchdowns in Sewanee's 38-31 win over Hendrix.
On Sewanee's second drive of the game, after Hendrix scored to even the game up at 7-7, Maes helped the drive with a 37-yard pass to Colin May from midfield that put the Tigers in the red zone. Three plays later, on a third down and five, Alex Darras found Maes for a nine-yard touchdown reception to give the Tigers the lead for good.
In the second quarter, following a fumble recovery, the Tigers had excellent field position at the Hendrix 30. Darras found Maes again for an 18-yard catch to give the Tigers a 28-7 lead.
Maes is fifth in yards per game (66) in the SAA and second in receiving touchdowns (5). Playing in all 10 games last season, he has already surpassed the 308 receiving yards that he did in the 2017 season with 330 so far in five games in 2018.
Maes and the rest of the Tigers wrap up a two-game road swing as they travel to No. 13/14 Berry Saturday evening.
