GAMBIER, Ohio - The Sewanee football team opened the 2018 season with a 43-10 win on the road at Kenyon College Saturday afternoon at McBride Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee started the contest with three straight field goals off the foot of Michael Jacobs. At the 10:57 mark, Jacobs chipped in a 22-yard field goal after an 11-play drive.
-Jacobs made it 6-0 on a 35-yard field goal after another 11-play drive at the 6:33 point.
-On Kenyon's next possession, Thomas Richardson found the pass from the Lords on the first play of the drive. That led to a 34-yard field goal by Jacobs to push the score to 9-0.
-The Tigers found the end zone for the first time in 2018 with a 13 yard reception by Warren Holland to give the Purple and Gold a 16-0 lead through one quarter of play.
-In the second quarter, Sewanee added two touchdowns to lead 30-0. At the 9:19 mark, Alex Darras scored first in the quarter on a four-yard run. Later, Micah Maes caught an eight-yard pass from Darras at 6:21.
-Kenyon avoided the shutout with a 33-yard field goal by Ryan Cooper at the end of the half.
-The Lords found the end zone with 11:48 left in the third with a five-yard touchdown reception, but the Tigers, leading 30-10 at this point, scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter to ice the contest.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Alex Darras went 20-of-35 with 252 yards and two touchdowns, and he also totaled 50 yards on the ground with 11 carries and a score.
-Warren Holland ran for 100 yards on the ground on 20 carries and a touchdown, while Malik also added a rushing touchdown as he finished with seven carries on 24 yards.
-Lee Menefee led Sewanee tacklers with nine on the day.
-Michael Jacobs finished a perfect 3-for-3 from field goals.
KENYON KEY STATISTICS
-Thomas Merkle threw for 214 yards on 31-of-47 through the air with one touchdown and an interception.
-Justin Bosch caught 11 passes for 91 yards, while Sam Dickey tallied 12 tackles.
Sewanee will open the home schedule Sept. 8 against Washington & Lee. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
