Tigers and Centre meet for the 70th time on Family Weekend
SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 5, 2012) – The Sewanee football team will look to earn its first win over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Centre College since 2006, as the Colonels travel to The Mountain for a 1:00 p.m., kickoff Saturday, at Harris Stadium.
In a rivalry that dates back to 1946, Centre and the Tigers will meet for the 70th time this weekend. Overall, the Colonels lead the all-time series 38-30-1. Additionally, last season's 28-14 victory for Centre was the sixth straight win for the Colonels.
Last week, Sewanee dropped a close 28-24 decision to unbeaten Willamette. In that game, the Tigers rushed for 297 yards. Unfortunately, a pair of second-half touchdowns by the Bearcats lifted Willamette.
Overall, the Tigers currently rank third in the nation in total rushing (326.6 ypg). Greenville leads all 240 NCAA Division III programs at 346.7 ypg.
Centre travels to Sewanee with a 3-2 overall record. With their balanced offensive attack (211 passing/209 rushing per game), the Colonels are averaging 31.6 points per game.
Individually, sophomore quarterback Health Harden continues to perform at a high level. Last game against Millsaps, Harden finished with 301 total yards.
