MURRAY, Ky. (March 7, 2017) – The Sewanee equestrian team performed well at the IHSA Murray State show over the weekend.
The Tigers were led by Sophie Streitweiser, Ruthie Carey, Delaney Evans, Madison Baugh, Kathryn Miller, Aelin Hill, Michael Wallace, Lindsay Stevenson, and Mary Marshall Fariss, who all qualified for upcoming regionals in which Sewanee will host at the Howell Equestrian Center, March 17 at 2:00 p.m.
In the final regional standings, Hill finished second while Wallace came in third. As a team, Sewanee came in third missing reserve by just eight points.
On Saturday, Wallace continued his outstanding season by winning the Open Over Fences. Hill, who finished fifth, followed Wallace in the same event. Hill then went on to win the Open Flat while Wallace placed third.
Overall, Wallace earned high point rider of the day while the Tigers took first place as the team champion on Saturday.
In the Novice Over Fences, Sewanee had a pair of riders that finished second. In the A Division, Catherine Bruch was second while in the B Division Evans came in at the same spot.
Sewanee earned another second place finish when Caroline Godsey finished as the runner-up in the Walk/Trot.
On Sunday, Sewanee opened with a win as Wallace took first in the Open Over Fences. Hill followed with another win in the Open Flat. Wallace finished fourth in the same event.
After a successful showing in the Walk/Trot on Saturday, Godsey finished third on Sunday.
Overall, Sewanee finished third on Sunday while Leslie Goodman earned enough points in various events to finish as the reserve high point rider.
