Sewanee Opens Hendrix Series with 3-1 Victory

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee baseball team downed the Warriors of Hendrix College, 3-1, on Friday afternoon thanks to a complete game performance by Drew Mancuso.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Hendrix started the contest with a run in the first inning. As Tanner Cooper grounded into a double play, Jorge Leon, who led off the contest with a base knock, scored on the play.

-The Tigers responded with single runs in the second and third innings. The Tigers evened the score on a Jack Galanek single, scoring Drew Mancuso.

-In the third, Trey Akins gave the Tigers the lead on a sacrifice fly, scoring Jared Demkowicz.

-Sewanee added insurance in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double that brought home Akins.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Trey Akins tallied two hits for the Tigers with an RBI.

-Jack Galanek also recorded two hits and an RBI, while also drawing a walk.

-Drew Mancuso (2-3) tossed a complete game, allowing one run on six singles, striking out six on 110 pitches, 90 hitting the strike zone.

HENDRIX KEY STATISTICS
-Tanner Cooper and Layton Burge each recorded two hits for the Warriors on Friday.

-Taylor Barker (2-3) allowed three earned in seven innings pitched.

UP NEXT
The series concludes Saturday with a doubleheader against the Warriors. First pitch is scheduled for noon from Montgomery Field.
