Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Owls in Slugfest

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee baseball team completed the three-game sweep of the Mississippi University for Women Owls on Saturday from Montgomery Field, winning 18-10.

-Sewanee started the contest off with a bang, as Jared Demkowicz launched a homer to right field in the bottom of the first.

-In the second, Sewanee came back with nine runs to put the lead to 10-0. The home team sent 14 batters to the plate, and had seven hits.

-Jack Galanek doubled to start the scoring, bringing home Drew Mancuso, who led off the frame with a double of his own.

-Later in the inning, Chris McNulty brought two runs home on a single to left center.

-MUW responded with two runs in the third before the Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Demkowicz and Drew Mancuso each recorded an RBI base knock in the frame.

-The Owls, in their exploratory year of NCAA Division III, hand tough with the Tigers. Trailing 12-2 headed into the fifth, the visitors put a crooked number on the scoreboard with four runs to trim the deficit to six runs.

-Sewanee responded with a four-spot of its own in the bottom half of the frame to put the lead back to double digits, 16-6. Mancuso brought two home on an RBI single before Beau Allen and Shane Smith followed with at bats that produced an RBI.

-MUW answered in the seventh with another four-run inning to hit double digits before Sewanee added two in the bottom half to make the contest 18-10 in favor of the good guys.

-Drew Mancuso had a four-hit day, going 4-for-5, with two doubles, four RBI and runs scored each.

-Jared Demkowicz went 3-for-3 on the day with the homer and three driven in.

-Jake Galanek went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

-Will Collins started for Sewanee, going three innings, allowed three hits and two earned runs.

-Zach Brodsky (1-1) pitched a clean sixth inning to earn the win for Sewanee.

-Heath Ford and Lukas Murphy each recorded two hits for the Owls.

-David Standifer (1-1) went 1.2 innings for MUW, allowed nine earned on six hits.

Sewanee's homestand continues Tuesday when Covenant makes the trek to the Domain. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. from Montgomery Field.
