Baseball Swept at No. 10 LaGrange in Doubleheader

LAGRANGE, Ga. - Sewanee baseball fell twice in a Saturday doubleheader at LaGrange, falling in game one, 5-4, before dropping the series finale, 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-Sewanee picked up where they left off on Friday night with a run in the top of the first inning off a Trey Akins single, scoring Jared Demkowicz.

-The Panthers were unable to figure out Sewanee starter Daniel McDonnell, but that all changed in the third. Thanks to a leadoff walk, the Panthers evened the score at one run each after three innings.

-The fourth inning saw four Panthers cross the plate to extend the lead to 5-1.

-In the top of the fifth, Sewanee attempted to score thanks to two walks in the inning, but they were unable to score any runs in the frame.

-After a quick inning by the Sewanee's Addison Jones, the Tigers attempted another scoring rally but came up short. After singles by Drew Mancuso and Riley Brandvold, the runners moved up 90 feet via a wild pitch. However, the Tigers would strand the two runners in scoring position.

-Sewanee chipped the deficit by a run in the eighth thanks to an RBI groundout by Max Murray to bring home Chris McNulty.

-Trailing 5-2 and down to their final out, the Tigers started a string of hits to cut the deficit to one run. With Tyler Dunbar on base thanks to a LaGrange error, Demkowicz singled to put runners on first and second base. Akins followed with an RBI single down the right field line to make the score 5-3.

-Following a pitching change, McMulty drove in an RBI single to make the contest a one-run game.

-With the tying run at second base, the Tigers could not even the score thanks to a lineout.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-The Tigers strung across six hits, but were unable to drive home any runs.

-LaGrange got the scoring going in the bottom of the first with three runs, led by a two-run RBI triple.

-Tha Panthers added a run in the fifth and two runs in the eighth for insurance.

-LaGrange is ranked 10th in D3baseball.com's Preseason Poll and ranked 35th in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's preseason rankings.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Trey Akins finished the day with consecutive two-hit games, including a 2-for-5 day in game one with two RBI.

-Chris McNulty recorded three hits on the day, including a 2-for-5 day with a run scored and a RBI.

-Braxton Swanson tallied two hits in game two, finishing the day going 2-for-4.

-Daniel McDonnell (0-1) suffered the loss in the opener, throwing 3.2 innings and allowing five earned runs on four hits.

-Will Collins (0-1) threw two innings for Sewanee in the second game and allowed three earned on four hits.

LAGRANGE KEY STATISTICS
-James Poropatic had a double in each game for LaGrange, while McKinley Erves had a double of his own and drove in three runs, all in game two.

Sewanee continues its seven-game road swing with a four-game series at Louisiana College. The series begins Friday evening at 6 p.m.
