SEWANEE, Tenn. - Head baseball coach David Jenkins and the staff have announced the 2018 schedule, which will open with 11 of their first 14 games away from the Domain.
The Purple and Gold's first two weekends of the season will see them on the road. Opening weekend, Feb. 2-4, will be a three-game series at LaGrange.
The next weekend, Feb. 9-11, will be a four-game tilt with Louisiana College. Single games will occur on the Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday in Pineville, La.
The Tigers will open the home portion of the schedule on the weekend on Feb. 17 and 18 with a three-game series with Spalding (Ky.) The Tigers will host the Golden Eagles for two on Saturday at noon, with the series finale slated for noon Sunday.
After the home-opening series, the Purple and Gold pack the bags again for a trip to Memphis to open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with a series with Rhodes on Feb. 24-25.
As the calendar turns to March, the Tigers will open the month with a 12-game homestand. The home stretch begins with a three-game series with Centre. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 3, beginning at noon, and the series finale is slated for noon on March 4.
The Tigers will step out of SAA play for the next week. The first of five consecutive non-conference matchups will be against Maryville on March 7 at 2 p.m.
Sewanee will next host Mississippi University for Women in a three-game series on March 10-11. The teams will open the weekend with a 2 p.m. first pitch on Saturday, followed by a doubleheader on Sunday, slated for noon.
MUW is restarting their athletic program after a 14-year hiatus after a tornado caused serious damage to their athletic facilities. Located in Columbus, Miss., MUW is an exploratory member of NCAA Division III and are in the the first year of a five-year period before becoming full Division III members.
The homestand continues with Covenant prior to Spring Break. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on March 13.
The Tigers will step back into SAA play on March 17 and 18 when Birmingham-Southern makes the trip to the Cumberland Plateau. The teams will play a St. Patrick's Day twinbill on Saturday at noon. The finale will commence on Sunday at noon.
The 12-game homestand concludes with a matchup with Calvin (Mich.) on Monday, March 19, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
Sewanee will hit the road for the first time in the month of March for a four-game swing. The trip begins with their second meeting with Maryville on March 21.
On March 24 and 25, Sewanee will travel to Oglethorpe for a SAA series.
The Tigers return home on March 30 for Easter weekend to host Hendrix. The three-game series will entail a single game on Friday at 2 p.m. with a double dip on Saturday beginning at noon.
The final road swing for Sewanee will be a four-game trek, beginning with its second matchup with Covenant on April 3 at 4 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. CT.
The weekend of April 7 and 8 will see the Tigers in Jackson, Miss. for a three-game conference series with Millsaps.
The final weekend of the regular season will see the Purple and Gold hosts Berry in a three-game series. The doubleheader will occur on Saturday, April 14 at noon, with the series finale slated for noon on April 15.
The 2018 SAA Tournament opening round will begin on April 19 at the sites of the top-2 seeds. The winners of each bracket will face off in the SAA Championship Series on April 28 and 29 at the highest seed.
Sewanee finished 2017 with a 19-23 record, the best finish for the baseball program since 2003.
