Story by Sewanee student-athlete Ryan Tillman
SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 9, 2017) - In their season debut, visiting Edgewood defeated the Sewanee baseball team 8-4 at historic Montgomery Field.
Edgewood's offense was red-hot early. The Eagles posted all eight runs in the first three innings with three coming in the first.
In his first collegiate start, freshman Jack Bartlewski struggled to set opposing hitters down allowing three runs (none earned) in the first inning.
The Tigers used five different arms for the remaining six innings, each pitching scoreless frames.
Freshmen Max Murray and Jared Demkowicz continued their hot hitting. Both provided a bright spot on the Sewanee scorecard. Murray hit a SAC ground out to second which scored Trey Akins. Demkowicz then ripped another two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. The Tiger left fielder now leads the conference in home runs with five and is tied for the league lead in RBI with Akins.
