SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 4, 2015) – Despite winning the first game on Saturday, the Sewanee baseball team dropped a three-game Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series to Oglethorpe at historic Montgomery Field.
Sewanee opened the afternoon with a 1-0 victory over the Stormy Petrels. Unfortunately, OU answered back with a 13-1 win in game three.
Sewanee opened the day with an outstanding pitching performance from starter Ryan Tillman. Tillman allowed only one hit in 8.1 innings of work while striking out four. Closer Marshall Ussery then earned his first save of the year after he completed the shutout after striking out two the final two hitters.
On offense, shortstop Tyler Minkkinen scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.
In the nightcap, OU wasted little time taking control. Oglethorpe scored three runs in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth, and three in the seventh. Sewanee's lone run came in the bottom of the fourth.
DH Nathan Warren led Sewanee on offense with a 2-for-2 performance.
Keith Dearden led OU with after going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.
Sewanee returns to action with a 3:00 p.m. midweek game against Covenant, Tuesday.
