Baseball opens Florida trip by crushing Alfred State

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 16, 2015) – Behind its second best offensive output of the season, the Sewanee baseball team opened its Florida trip with a 17-1 win over Alfred State, Monday, in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Tigers are now 5-7 overall while snapping their six-game losing streak.

Sewanee jumped out quickly scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, three in the bottom of the fourth, four more in the fifth, two in the sixth, and four in the eighth.

Overall, Sewanee pounded out 13 hits which included two doubles and a triple.

Jackson Cooper led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, four RBI, and three runs scored. Cooper also walked once and had the Tigers' triple that scored Jack Whaley, Blake Bays, and Nathan Warren in the bottom of the fifth.

Ben Clune, Tyler Minkkinen, and Brett Polston also had multiple hits for Sewanee.

On the mound, reliever Drew Mancuso tossed 4.0 innings of scoreless relief for the win.

Sewanee returns to action with a 9:00 a.m. (EST) contest against Springfield, Tuesday.
