No. 21 Rhodes rallies to take two from Sewanee

ATLANTA (March 7, 2015) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival No. 21 Rhodes rallied for a two-game sweep of the Sewanee baseball team, Saturday, on the campus of Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.

The Lynx came back for a 14-9 win in the opener and a 12-1 win in the nightcap. With the losses, Sewanee is now 4-3 overall and 2-3 in SAA play.

Game One – Rhodes 14 – Sewanee 9

Despite having a 4-1 lead through the first four innings, Sewanee could not hold on as Rhodes's offense came alive for 13 runs the final five innings.

After Sewanee starter Harrison Lee tossed 4.1 innings of work while allowing only two hits and two runs, reliever Mike O'Neil was charged with the loss after giving up four runs on three hits.

Sewanee started strong in the bottom of the second when Ben Clune singled to left scoring Drew Mancuso. Ryan Poole then drove in Jackson Cooper with a long fly ball to center field.

The Tigers would add two more runs when Tyler Minkkinen and Jack Whaley both had RBIs.

Sewanee would add four runs in the bottom of the ninth with one hit by Minkkien. Despite the late rally by Sewanee, Rhodes was able to hold on after they built its large lead.

Rhodes starter Daniel Morris earned the win despite allowing four runs on five hits in 6.0 innings of work.

Minkkinen led Sewanee at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance and two RBI.

Rhodes was led at the plate by leadoff hitter Bill Munson, who had two hits and five RBI.

Additionally, Jackson Lourie added three hits, four runs, and one RBI for the Lynx.

Game Two – Rhodes 12 – Sewanee 1

Despite an early one-run lead by Sewanee, Rhodes rallied back with 12 unanswered runs over the final six innings.

Lynx starter Adam Putnam earned the win after tossing 5.0 innings with six strikeouts. Putnam allowed the lone Sewanee run, however it was unearned in the bottom of the first.

Rhodes pounded out 12 hits, including eight against Sewanee starter Charles Warren (L, 1-1), who struck out two while allowing six earned runs.

Clune led Sewanee with a 3-for-3 performance. Right fielder Nathaniel Howard also played well with two hits and the Tigers' lone run scored.

The Tigers and Lynx will close out the three-game series with a single game on Sunday.
