CONWAY, Ark. (March 1, 2015) – The Sewanee baseball team earned a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series win by crushing conference foe Hendrix on the road, 11-1, Sunday at Warrior Field.
The Tigers are now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in SAA action.
Sewanee wasted little time taking command of the contest by scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning. Hendrix starter Thomas Weber (L, 0-2) took the loss after being chased from the mound before he got an out in the first. In fact, Sewanee pounded Weber for three hits and six runs which all were earned.
During the inning, the Tigers scored seven runs on five hits while sending 11 batters to the plate. In fact, the first six Sewanee hitters reached before Hendrix recorded an out.
The Tigers would add two more runs in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the eighth.
In comparison to Hendrix's starter, Sewanee's Ryan Tillman pitched a gem. Tillman earned the win (W, 1-0) after tossing 5.0 scoreless innings while allowing Hendrix to scatter only three hits. Tillman also struck out two hitters while walking only one.
Additionally, Clune and Cooper added two RBI with one steal.
Matt Simmons led Hendrix at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort and one run scored.
Sewanee returns to action with a 2:00 p.m. (EST) contest at non-conference foe Covenant, Wednesday.
