CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Bowdoin beat Sewanee women's tennis 8-1 in California before Top-Ranked Amherst beat Sewanee 9-0 out in California on Tuesday and Wednesday.
For the Bowdoin match,
Jenny Liles (Little Rock, Ark., Mount St. Mary) and
Michelle Flume (San Antonio, Tex., St. Mary's Hall) picked up a win at the one-spot in doubles, but Bowdoin rallied for eight straight wins in doubles and singles for the 8-1 win.
In the opening doubles round of the Amherst match, Liles with Flume and
Laura Szyperski (Atlanta, Ga., Lovett) with
Lindsay Wilburn (Hilton Head, S.C., Hilton Head Christian) nearly picked up wins over the favored #1 and #3 doubles teams of Amherst, but took narrow 9-7 losses. Amherst won all of the singles matches in two sets. Sewanee will host Washington and Lee on March 21.
