SEWANEE, Tenn. -- King Oehmig, former Baylor School coach, has been named the interim head men's golf coach at Sewanee, according to Sewanee AD Mark Webb. The Rev. Dr. Oehmig is also an Episcopal priest and is editor in chief of Synthesis, a weekly publication designed to offer preaching and worship aid.
Dr. Oehmig coached the Baylor boys' and girls' teams for 12 years and in 2007, was recognized by the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) as the National High School Golf Coach in the girls' golf category. Coach Oehmig took over the Baylor program in 1997 and before retiring in 2009, won 21 team state championships - 12 consecutive girls' championships and 9 boys' championships. He also coach 14 individual state champions.
Oehmig is a 1973 graduate of the University of Virginia and has graduate degrees (M.Div. and D.Min.) from Sewanee. He was also the 2007 winner of the DuBose Award for Service from the School of Theology.
