WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Sewanee swimming and Diving teams competed at Division II Rollins on Wednesday night and the Sewanee women topped the host Tars 104-102. The Sewanee men battled back from 23 points down to trail by a single point going into the last relay, but Rollins prevailed, edging out Sewanee for a 10-point win margin. The Rollins women are ranked 28th nationally in Division II and the men are 17th.
"We swam very well for where we are in out training cycle," said veteran Sewanee coach max Obermiller. "We've been swimming 5 hours per day and were pretty tired going into the meet. Despite that, we swam tough and posted many times that were at or close to season bests."
Will Overton (Jacksonville, Fla., Episcopal) led the men, competing in two races against the D II National champion in those events.
Sara Neil (Decatur, Ala., Decatur) helped the women win the 200 Medley relay and posted wins in the 200 IM and 200 butterfly.
Sewanee will compete again January 23 at home when the Tigers host Transylvania University and
LaGrange and Gordon Colleges at the Fowler Center Pool.
