SUWANEE, Ga.– The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its inaugural Baseball All-Sportsmanship team. Eleven baseball players were selected to the 2009 squad. Sewanee senior pitcher and designated hitter
Trey Axe was among those honored by the league. Axe is a four-year letterman from Austin, Texas. He is an Economics major and batted at a .330 clip this year, starting all 30 Tiger games.
The SCAC is placing a special emphasis on sportsmanship this year – asking all fans of the conference to exhibit good sportsmanship at all conference functions throughout the 2008-2009 season. Each coach was asked to elect one member from their team who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season. “This is an appropriate award for a guy who always displayed the qualities of being a great teammate and had a competitive, respectful approach to the game and his opponents,” added Sewanee coach
Scott Baker.
