DAY ONE RESULTS
SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee is hosting the 9th Sewanee Invitational this weekend and won half of all of the events contested Friday to enter day two in second place – First among Division III teams. Cumberlands (Ky.) is leading the men’s and women’s scoring so far.
“It was a great afternoon of fast swimming for our Tiger Tankers,” said veteran Sewanee coach Max Obermiller. “This is the most events we've won at this meet in over five years. As great as the sprints were, the miles (1650 freestyle) were even better. Alix Kloster and Peter Schildknecht anchored a very strong contingent of distance kids and swam amazing times for this early in the season.”
Courtland Day (Barnesville, Ga., Upson-Lee) won the 50 breaststroke in 27.84 and the 100 IM in 56.93 to highlight the men’s swimming effort. Cole Larson (Kiln, Miss., McCallie) won the 1 meter diving event. Peter Schildknecht (Cincinatti, Ohio, Moeller) was second in the mile swim with a time of 17:40.44.
For the women, Haley Shepherd (Evans, Ga., Evans) won the 50 backstroke in 28.86 and the 100 IM in 103.24 for a new meet record. Sewanee Diver Kaitlyn Breiten (Cooperstown, N.Y., Cooperstown Central) won both the 1 and 3 meter diving events. Sara Neil (Decatur, Ala., Decatur)won the 50-yard butterfly in 27.74 and Alix Kloster (Norfolk, Va., Maury) won the mile swim in 18:44.30.
Competition will resume tomorrow at 10 am and Sewanee will host Milligan and Asbury on November 21.
