SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Sewanee sophomore Matt Lightfoot (Germantown, Tenn., Germantown) was named All-Conference, third team, by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) for his play in 2009. "Matt's recognition for the second year in a row is a statement to his consistency and selflessness as a student-athlete,” remarked Sewanee coach David Poggi.
Lightfoot led Sewanee this year with six goals and five assists – Good for 17 points. Lightfoot led the team in points as a freshman in 2008, also, and was an All-SCAC selection. “As a ‘marked man’ in every game he played,” continued Poggi, “Matt again led the team in scoring. The SCAC is one of the toughest men's soccer conferences in the country and it takes more than one player on any team to be successful. I am very happy for Matt and his teammates to be recognized by the conference coaches for this award."
