The Sewanee baseball team returns six starters, its top three pitchers and its lead hitter from a year ago. Those factors, combined with a talented crop of newcomers should help the Tigers find a way to get back in the thick of the SCAC Eastern Division race in 2010.

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee has announced its incoming class of freshman baseball players, according to Scott Baker, head coach for the Tigers. The Tigers got 11 commitments for the 2010 season. In-state players that highlight the group are Chattanooga’s Chase Riemer (Baylor), Nashville’s Quentin Ross (USN), Franklin’s Jacob Simpson (BGA) and Murfreesboro’s Scott Ward (Oakland).

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2009 All-SCAC baseball awards this week and Sewanee’s Taylor Barrett (Murfreesboro, Tenn., Siegel) and Taylor Irwin (Brentwood, Tenn., Battle Ground Academy) picked up All-SCAC nods. Barrett was also named SCAC Freshman of the Year.

SUWANEE, Ga.– The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its inaugural Baseball All-Sportsmanship team. Eleven baseball players were selected to the 2009 squad. Sewanee senior pitcher and designated hitter Trey Axe was among those honored by the league. Axe is a four-year letterman from Austin, Texas. He is an Economics major and batted at a .330 clip this year, starting all 30 Tiger games.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. 4/19/09 – The Rhodes Lynx defeated the Sewanee Tigers 22-5 today in SCAC baseball action.  It was the final game of the 2009 season for the Tigers.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. 4/18/09 – The Sewanee Tigers dropped a pair of one-run games to Rhodes College today in an SCAC baseball doubleheader played in Memphis.  Rhodes took the first game 2-1 and the second game 6-5.  It was the eighth and ninth one-run losses of the season for the Tigers.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. 4/15/09 – The Maryville College Scots swept a doubleheader from the Sewanee Tigers in Division 3 baseball action today in Maryville, Tenn.  The Scots took the first game 9-1 and came from behind to win the second game 5-4.
