Sewanee finishes 79th out 451 Division III schools in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings

SEWANEE, Tenn. (June 13, 2017) – After winning multiple Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championships during the 2016-17 season, the Sewanee Athletic Department finished 79th out of 451 NCAA Division III schools in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings.

The Tigers were the second highest SAA program behind rival Rhodes, who finished 30th. Williams College won its 20th Directors' Cup in the 22-year history of the award. Washington University in St. Louis was second while Tufts, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and Johns Hopkins closed out the top-five.

Sewanee finished with 256.00 points. The Tigers won conference titles in women's golf, men's lacrosse, men's tennis, and women's tennis. Points were awarded in the Directors' Cup competition based on how an institution's teams fare in NCAA Championship events. Each school is permitted to utilize their highest scores in nine men's and nine women's sports.
